Conditions for Family Members and EU Blue Card Holder’s Residence Rights
As an EU Blue Card holder, your spouse and children are eligible for benefits, but certain conditions must be met. You must demonstrate financial means to support your family, including proof of stable income and sufficient housing. In some cases, your spouse may need to show basic knowledge of the German language, though this requirement can be waived. The EU Blue Card is typically issued for up to four years and can be extended. After 33 months (or 21 months with B1-level German proficiency), you may be eligible for permanent residence in Germany.
As an EU Blue Card holder, your family members—your spouse and children—are entitled to join you in Germany without additional permits. Your spouse can also work freely, which enhances the family’s overall ability to live and thrive in Germany. Make sure to fulfill the financial and documentation requirements to ensure smooth family reunification and residence in the country.
